My hosts at The Travel Yogi have been offering yoga retreats for several years to this UNESCO World Heritage Site and have worked out all the details of an action packed week that has us heading out everyday after our Ashtanga mysore practice on boat excursions to hike, snorkel, swim and kayak (accompanied at all times by Certified Naturalists) on Bartolome, North Seymour, South Plazas and Santa Cruz Islands. We will also climb through lava tunnels and explore pit craters and the cloud forrest in the Santa Cruz Highlands. For a sample itinerary check out my previous blog post http://splendidyoga.blogspot.com/
Our daily explorations will allow us to commune on land and sea with Galapagos penguins, sea turtles, sea lions and iguanas as well as blue footed boobies and many other species exclusively found in the surrounding islands. Because the wildlife is protected in their natural habitats and exposure to humans is carefully monitored, the retreats are small and limited to 12 people. This means more intimacy with the animals and more opportunity to learn from our guides that will accompany us. It also means more individualized attention in the yoga room especially for practitioners new to Ashtanga Yoga. (Our classes will take place in a fully stocked yoga studio with beautiful views of the coffee plantation grounds where Giant Tortoises roam free!)
We will be staying at Semilla Verde http:/www.gps.ec/About%20Semilla%20Verde.html which is a private guesthouse situated on 12 lush acres with sea views that serves delicious local cuisine customized for every dietary need.
